On the World Cup Weekend in Brunei

On 12-13 May 2018 the Russian Embassy in Brunei together with “Game On Business Management and Services”, “Royal Brunei Recreation Club” and “The Collective Art Events” organized the “World Cup Weekend” dedicated to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

The Opening Ceremony of the World Cup Weekend was held on 12 May at the Royal Brunei Recreation Club. Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Brunei Darussalam Mr.Vladlen Semivolos presented his welcoming remarks, informed the audience about the preparation of our country to this international football competition, highlighted the construction and modernization of stadiums and infrastructure, procedures of receiving FAN-IDs, cities which will host football players and foreign guests as well as places of interest located there. The guests also viewed a lively programme dedicated to the World Cup in Russia.

Key event within the framework of the World Cup Weekend was the youth cyber sport tournament PS4 FIFA World Cup 2018, which attracted wide public attention in Brunei. The winners of the tournament received memorable prizes provided by the Embassy - 2018 FIFA WorldCup official match ball for the first place, FIFA World Cup 2018 polo shirt for the second place and 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Plush Mascot – for the third. All winners also received Russian Matryoshka dolls.

Another important event of the World Cup Weekend was the Exhibition “Russia – The Host Country of the 2018 FIFA World Cup” organized by the Embassy at the Royal Brunei Recreation Club. The display covered several sections dedicated to various themes: host cities of the World Cup in Russia, stadiums, tourist routes, Russian Islamic heritage, handicrafts, Russian pastry as well as memorable dates in the history of Russia-Brunei relations.

The Closing Ceremony of the World Cup Weekend was held on 13 May at the Royal Brunei Recreation Club. It was attended by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports of Brunei Darussalam Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism of Brunei Darussalam Awang Wardi Bin Haji Mohammad Ali and Bruneian public. Guests were entertained with a colourful interactive programme dedicated to the World Cup in Russia. Traditional cake-cutting ceremony, exchange of the tokens of appreciation and award ceremony were held.
