On the visit to Brunei of Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Mrs. Valentina Matviyenko
On 18-19 February 2019 the delegation led by Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Mrs. Valentina Matviyenko was on an official visit to Brunei.
Within the framework of the visit Mrs. Valentina Matviyenko was received in audience by His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah. During the audience she conveyed the message by President of Russia Vladimir Putin to the Bruneian leader. The two sides held a substantial discussion on the entire complex of Russia-Brunei relations and international issues. The Chairperson of the Federation Council hailed the meeting as constructive and very interesting.
The head of the Russian delegation was received by Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador-at-the-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brunei.
Constructive and mutually beneficial dialogue was held by the members of parliaments of the two countries at the Legislative Council. Mrs. Valentina Matviyenko and Legislative Council Speaker Pehin Dato Abdul Rahman Taib signed Memorandum of understanding between the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the Legislative Council of Brunei Darussalam. Russia became the first foreign country to adopt such a memorandum with Brunei.
The visit concluded with the official dinner attended by Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Ali Apong, Minister of Energy, Manpower and Industry Dato Mat Suny Hussein as well as representatives of the business community of Brunei.
The visit included rich cultural programme. Mrs. Valentina Matviyenko toured the Royal Regalia Museum, viewed the exhibition at the Brunei Arts and Handicraft Training Centre and visited Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque.
