On the visit of Minister of Foreign Affairs II Dato Erywan Yusof to Moscow

On 23-25 May the Minister of Foreign Affairs II of Brunei Darussalam Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd. Yusof paid a working visit to Moscow to hold negotiations with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation 
Mr. Sergey Lavrov.<br />
The talks focused on the state and prospects of further development of Russia-Brunei ties with the emphasis on the implementation of the agreements reached during the meetings of Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam and the President of the Russian Federation Mr. Vladimir Putin on the margins of the ASEAN-Russia Summit in Sochi in May 2016 and the APEC Summit  in Lima in November 2016. The two ministers also discussed acute issues of the regional and global agenda. <br />
At the press conference the ministers stated that the meeting was constructive, positive and substantial. As was underscored by Minister Sergey Lavrov, Russia sees Brunei as its important partner in the Asia Pacific region. “We appreciate Brunei’s even-handed attitude to promoting collective approaches towards solving any arising problems. We are interested in the continuation of the political dialogue, including at the top level, being accompanied by a buildup in trade, economic, and cultural cooperation as well as in military and military-technical ties”, - Sergey Lavrov said. <br />
Dato Erywan Yusof underscored friendly and constructive nature of relations between Russia and Brunei: “we have had excellent rapport on all levels from the leadership of our two countries to our officials and people”. He expressed appreciation to Russia for the efforts it undertakes to ensure peace and stability in Asia. “We believe Russia continues to play an important role in regional security architecture in Asia Pacific region. Russia is an invaluable partner of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, and we welcome Russia’s continuous support for ASEAN centrality”, he underlined. <br />
The two ministers agreed to accelerate the renewal of bilateral legal framework, including working on draft MoUs in the fields of fight against drug-trafficking, elimination of the consequences of emergencies, education, science and tourism. <br />
The meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation 
Mr. Sergey Lavrov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs II of Brunei Darussalam Dato Erywan Yusof reaffirmed common interest to further develop comprehensive partnership in all areas and on all levels. It provided an important impetus to positive trends in bilateral ties, became another step forward towards closer cooperation between the two countries that fully meets the interests of Brunei and Russia as well as the objectives of security and prosperity in the Southeast Asia and Asia Pacific region.
