On the reception on the occasion of the Russian Diplomat’s Day
On 12 February 2019 the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Brunei Darussalam hosted the reception on the occasion of the Russian Diplomat’s Day at the Rizqun International Hotel attended by the representatives of the diplomatic corps.
In his welcoming remarks Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Brunei Darussalam Mr. Vladlen Semivolos highlighted the major milestones in the history of the Russian diplomacy, spoke about prominent diplomats who laid down the foundation of the Russian diplomatic tradition and underlined the achievements of the Russian diplomacy in modern times.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs upheld state interests at every turning point of Russian and world history. At the same time, it continued the tradition of promoting multilateral and collective approach in solving international issues”, he said.
The Ambassador paid tribute to a significant number of Russian diplomats who contributed greatly to the development of international relations, regional and global peace and security like such brilliant diplomats as late Anatoly Dobrinin, longest serving Russian ambassador to US, late former foreign minister Yevgeny Primakov and late former representative of Russia at the UN Vitaly Churkin.
In concluding his speech the Ambassador cited the greeting message on the professional day of the Russian diplomatic service by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov who underscored their confidence that the work of the Russian diplomacy to maintain strategic stability, uphold the basic principles of international law and the universal role of the UN is the movement in the right direction.
The participants of the event enjoyed exhibitions dedicated to the history of the Russian Diplomatic Service and 27 years of the Russia-Brunei relations.
The Russian Diplomat’s Day is the holiday to commemorate the foundation of the Russian diplomatic service. It was established in 2002 by the Decree of the President of Russia Mr. Vladimir Putin. Since then it is celebrated every year on 10 February by Russian diplomats all over the world, including Moscow headquarters, regional offices of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and missions abroad.
