Great Victory Day Reception
On May 15, 2025, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Brunei Darussalam hosted a solemn reception dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War (1941–1945). The event served not only as a tribute to the heroism and sacrifice of the Soviet people but also as a reminder of their decisive contribution to the defeat of Nazism and the liberation of Europe and the world from the threat of fascism.
The reception was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Defence of Brunei Darussalam, the Prime Minister’s Office, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with representatives of the diplomatic corps, cultural and academic communities, and local media.
In his keynote speech, H.E. Mr. Mikhail Baranov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Brunei Darussalam, underscored the historic importance of the victory and the tremendous cost at which it was achieved — with more than 27 million Soviet citizens perishing during the war. The Ambassador stressed that the preservation of historical truth and memory is not only a moral obligation but also a key to ensuring that the horrors of global war are never repeated.
“We must remember the lessons of history and resolutely oppose any attempts to distort or rewrite it for political purposes,” Ambassador Baranov stated. “Today, when the international security system is under strain, it is more important than ever to uphold the legacy of the Victory and to defend the values of peace, justice, and international cooperation.”
As part of the event, the Immortal Regiment memorial action was held, featuring photographs and biographies of the relatives of Embassy staff who fought in the Great Patriotic War, thus honoring their personal stories of courage and sacrifice. A film screening dedicated to the history of the Great Patriotic War was also organized.
The cultural program of the evening featured a moving performance of wartime songs by talented Bruneian musicians. Their heartfelt renditions of iconic melodies evoked deep emotions and reflected the universal resonance of music as a bridge between peoples and generations.
Guests of the event also had the opportunity to view a thematic photo exhibition showcasing key moments of the Great Patriotic War and the Soviet contribution to the Allied victory.
The Russian Embassy expresses its gratitude to all guests for their participation and solidarity in commemorating this historic date. The memory of the Great Victory, achieved through immense courage and unity, continues to inspire nations in the pursuit of a peaceful and just world.
