Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy conducts first official visit to Russia
On 26-30 July 2018, delegation of the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) led by Commander of RBN First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad visited Vladivostok, Russia, at the invitation of Commander of the Pacific Fleet of the Russian Federation Admiral Sergei Avakyants.
Admiral Sergei Avakyants and First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad held a working meeting to discuss naval cooperation between Russia and Brunei Darussalam. The Russian side briefed the Commander of RBN about the current state and development plans of the Russian Pacific Fleet. First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad, in his turn, expressed gratitude to the Pacific Fleet Commander for the invitation, underlined that Brunei Darussalam views Russia as an important partner and appreciates its role in maintaining the power balance in the region. Both sides reiterated commitment to continue to bolster defence ties and to further enhance interactions in areas of mutual interest through various bilateral naval exercises and multilateral platforms with a view to contribute to peace and stability of the region.
On 29 July, Commander of RBN took part in celebrations dedicated to the Russia’s Navy Day. On this day a spectacular naval parade was held in Vladivostok – the main naval base of the Russian Pacific Fleet, with the participation of 40 warships, boats, submarines and support vessels, more than 20 units of military hardware of coastal defense troops and more than 1,500 Pacific Fleet military.
Within the framework of the visit Bruneian delegation attended the events of the International Far Eastern Maritime Show (IFEMS), which is the biggest shipbuilding industry event, bringing together over 1,500 participants from across Russia and abroad. With its extensive Business Programme, Shipbuilding Hackathon, Young Engineers Convention and Shipbuilding Exhibition, IFEMS is a solid platform for discussing a wide range of issues in the field of naval cooperation between Russia and Asia-Pacific countries.
During his stay in Vladivostok, First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad also made an official visit to the latest Russian Pacific Fleet corvette “Sovershenniy”, toured S-56 Submarine Museum, and visited the Russian Pacific Fleets’ historical museum.
